A unique location of phytolite remains dating back to the mid-Cretaceous have been discovered in the Kemerovo Region by the expedition of the Komarov Botanical Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences (St. Petersburg) under the guidance of L.B. Golovneva, Doctor of Science (Biology). The find allows to make a conclusion that 85 million years ago plane-tree (Platanus) forests used to grow in Western Siberia.
