Name LAKES UNDER ANTARCTICA AND MARS GLACIERS MAY PRESERVE TRACES OF ANCIENT LIFE FORMS
Breef content: A Russian scientist in cooperation with his American colleague has made calculations to prove that lake Vostok, discovered under the Antarctica glaciers, if it existed in the nowadays dimensions in the pre-glacial time, has never been frozen to the bottom. This implies that ancient life forms could have survived in the water of these lakes, being dozens of millions of years old. The scientists assume that similar lakes may exist under the Mars glaciers. They believe that the traces of the ancient life on the 'Red Planet' should be searched for under these glaciers.

Name FOREST BELTS ADVANCING ON STEPPE TERRITORIES
Breef content: In the Soviet epoch million hectares of forest belts were planted to protect from erosion the soils in the Southern areas of the country. But not all the ecologists believe that such intrusion into natural processes was positive. Zoologists from Rostov-on-Don assert that forest belts advancement have damaged significantly the unique semi-desert ecosystems and put on the verge of extinction many rare animal species.

Name POLAR DAY IN THE MOSCOW ZOO
Breef content: The spring has come - the mating and breeding season for all living creatures, including the Moscow Zoo geese. However, some geese fail to breed. The scientists from the Moscow Zoo have managed to answer the question why the red-breasted geese (Branta ruficollis) stubbornly refused to mate for many years. It has been proved that the reason is not their stubbornness, but the light and temperature conditions. The researchers changed the conditions and this became a turning point: the red-breasted geese started mating regularly.

Name 'KNIGHT'S STARS' BLOSSOM OUT IN A POLAR NIGHT
Breef content: Scientists from the Polar & Alpine Zones Botanical Gardens/Institute, Kola Scientific Centre (Russian Academy of Sciences) in the town of Apatity (Murmansk region) have come forward with a competitive challenge to foreign flowers suppliers. They have invented a way to cultivate magnificent Hippeastrums in severe conditions of the Kola transpolar zone thus enabling the northerners to enjoy these beautiful flowers. The biologists have taken care to ensure that domestic Hippeastrums are available for sale by the time of winter holidays.

Name RUSSIAN MORALITY SUFFERED FROM THE TATAR-MONGOL INVASION
Breef content: In the eleventh up to the thirteenth centuries the Kiev Russ had all the rights to be called Holy. Its population considered the Christian commandments, including "do not kill", mostly as the norm of life. But the Tatar-Mongol invasion cut short their pious intensions.
