A heart calculus is not a metaphor but pathology. Specialists of three Novosibirsk Institutes have proved that mitral valves become overgrown with apatite in the same way as the seabed, i.e., in biogenic way. Bacteria that form calculus sacs around mitral valves, equally live both in the sea and in the hearts of mammals.
